I have a magnificent home for sale in Woodsfield, OH built by "Sad" Sam Jones in 1939 located at 106 S. Paul St., Woodsfield. His name still shows on the laundry shoot catch, that he built and signed his name to.
Here is his story:
Per Willie's post:
"1933-Chicago White Sox Pitcher "Sad Sam" Jones. " Born 1892 in Woodsfield, OH. In a 22-year Major League career, Jones compiled a 229-217 record with 1223 strikeouts and a 3.84 ERA. In 1923, he threw a No-Hitter. He was a 2 time World Series Champion in 1918 & 1923.
Somehow most of the Ohio Valley has never heard of him. He passed away in 1966 in Barnesville, Ohio."
Willie colorized the black & white photo of Sam.
